The museum has permanent exhibitions on local natural history, heritage (Maori and early settlers) with detailed information, photos, costumes and artefacts. At the time of visit, there was a special exhibition on NZ’s participation in World War One (not the same as the one held in Canterbury Museum in Christchurch).
